Europe Accellerators and Incubators – Nesta Startup Factories slidesPubblicato: 22 giugno 2011
Back from London for the Startup Factories event, organized by Nesta, a no-profit endowment, funded by the National Lottery. Nesta is deeply investigating incubators, accellerators and emerging models in startup formation. The event was great, inspiring and very well directed by the Nesta team. Everybody was there, 150 people that are deeply connected in the european incubator ecosystem.
These are the somehow controversial slides I presented. I consider this first run of the study 50% a win and 50% a miss.
Win: for sure we have identified a clear methodology to measure, track and compare the performance (beyond profitability and IRR of course) of these models and clearly YCombinator, Techstars and Seedcamp have gone long ways in proving how this model can scale and how it can find it’s spot in the entrepreneurial/venture capital food chain.
Miss: it’s clear that a strict application as we decided to have for this first run of the map criteria and ranking system (which was the exact same for US and Europe) is not a good description of the European space. But this presentation at Nesta and listening to several points of view on this topic, has certainly helped me in terms of understanding how to improve much in the next European specific edition, I would like to work on in the next months.
Any suggestions, idea, criticism, offer to partecipate, welcome. Thanks for the great event Nesta.
