Venture capital in RamallahPubblicato: 15 febbraio 2010
Sometimes I'm discouraged to see how things too many times don't work in Italy. Once we where discussing with friends and I was argumenting how probably is less difficult to do venture capital in Ramallah than in Calabria.
Well it's not true. What Saed Nashef, friend and Kauffman Fellow, is trying to do is much more difficult.
Saed Nashef is launching a venture capital fund that will back up ICT and Internet startups in the West Bank and Ramallah.I had the opportunity to interview him for a story that will go up on Wired and on Current TV.
When you live within a 700 chilometer wall, the only economic resource that you can really only invest upon is the intellectual one. I have seen startups that from within the Wall sell on the Internet their services. Servers live on Amazon – free on the network – that broadcast to the planet.
And while they do it start building a future for young generations of developers.
Ghost: for example: a web based computing platform. Personal desktop in a browser. The startup has its main development center in Ramallah, where one co-founder is located.
